FASTING, FEASTING: AN OVERVIEW OVER MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIPS
Abstract
The paper discovers the impact of a difference between female-to-female relationships. Primarily the story of human pains of hunger, Fasting, Feasting merits appreciation from the feminist point of view. Anita Desai is undoubtedly one of such significant writers who challenge the stereotypes of motherhood. In the way of a traditional woman, a woman does not trouble children and family, turning her face from the responsibilities of a mother. By leaving her children devoid of maternal care and love, she enjoys her life with her male counterpart. However, the question arises if a woman, in the wake of the feminist movement, abandons her domestic sphere completely, what would become of her children? How can dignity be earned at the cost of having motherhood?
