Anita Desai is undoubtedly one of such significant writers who challenge the stereotypes of motherhood. In the way of a traditional woman, a woman does not trouble children and family, turning her face from the responsibilities of a mother. By leaving her children devoid of maternal care and love, she enjoys her life with her male counterpart. However, the question arises if a woman, in the wake of the feminist movement, abandons her domestic sphere completely, what would become of her children? How can dignity be earned at the cost of having motherhood?
